Stanley Arts Awarded as Part of ACE Creative People and Places

The programme puts culture in the hands of the local community

Croydon CPP is a newly awarded programme that takes a bold, democratic approach to arts and culture. It will hand over funding and resources to communities who’ve traditionally had fewer opportunities to take part in cultural activities.

Each community will work through its own panel, making decisions about the arts and culture programmes they want to see. These groups will also come together to host events that bring people from across Croydon into the conversation and celebration.

Louisa Bartlett-Pestell, Artistic Director/CEO for Stanley Arts – lead organisation for the Croydon CPP says “The Croydon Creative People and Places programme is about handing over the creative reins to the people who make this borough so unique. Driven by a consortium including Stanley Arts, Reaching Higher, Croydon Council, Croydon Makers and Creators, the Asian Resource Centre of Croydon, Croydon BME Forum and Croydon Neighbourhood Care Association, we’re excited to give communities the power and resources to shape their own arts and culture programmes, celebrating Croydon’s creativity in all its diversity.”

CPPs bring together community, grassroots and cultural organisations as partners to take the lead in choosing, creating and taking part in creative and cultural activities. CPPs are empowering local people to pursue the art they want, where they live.

This funding is made possible thanks to National Lottery players. Every National Lottery ticket purchased generates money for good causes and enables people in villages, towns, and cities up and down the country to get access to cultural experiences where they live.

Michelle Walker, London Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “Creative People and Places is about empowering people to bring creativity into everyday spaces in ways that are important to them. We’re thrilled to support a new round of locally rooted projects  that reflect the energy and diversity of London’s communities, from citizen-led assemblies and eco-focused events to youth-driven initiatives. With National Lottery funding, these programmes will help Londoners shape the cultural life of their neighbourhoods.”
