Matthew, Walnuts and Honey (South Drawood exhibition)
Dimensions: 2018
The six panel spray paint mural by south London artist Morganico shows colourful flowers, creatures and surreal plants and adds a dash of colour to the front perimeter walls of a local house.
Celebrating a local family in a piece of art.
In early 2018, local resident Leila Baker was inspired to get her front wall decorated when her dad showed her the work of local artist Morganico. She wanted something to look like you could see through the wall to a colourful garden.
Some of the design represents the family:the pink owl represents daughter Rosie who died age four weeks and daisies represent the youngest child Daisy. Other parts of the design celebrate the family’s interest; the music tree celebrates the musicians in the family and the football tree in Crystal Palace team colours displays the family’s support for the local team.
It took Morganico just two days in June 2014 to complete the work.
Morgan Paton, also known as Morganico is a South London artist who has done a wide range of public art pieces specialising in spray paint work and wood carving. He’s also worked on the restoration of the Stockwell Memorial Mural and Nuclear Dawn mural.
