Inventing South Norwood Grants Programme

During the programme, we have been giving out grants to people inspired by South Norwood’s history of creativity and invention to create their own community event or activity. Grants of £500 to £1000 are available.

The activities included anything from guided walks or talks to musical performances and spoken word evenings. There were few limits, the activities just needed to be inspired by South Norwood tradition of creativity and invention; past or present day via any form of invention, whether it be new music, new imagery, a new building or new ideas.

Two rounds of grant funding have taken place to support cultural events across the heritage action zone. Click the links below to find out more about each project.

In our first round of grant giving, five grants were awarded for activities including an exhibition and talk on the Croydon Canal, a photography exhibition and talk on historic photographer Charles Harrison Price, a competition to design the 2021 panto dame costume at Stanley Arts, a project focused on the music of Avril Coleridge-Taylor and a youth programme inspired by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Hiawatha.

Our second round of grants saw eight grants issued for projects with a broad range of activity including walks, research, films and podcasts, all of which will be shared and celebrated in 2023.
