The Archive Group
This team of volunteers aims to uncover local stories of invention and creativity in South Norwood. These discoveries will be shared on this website as an archive.
To undertake this activity, the group meets once every two weeks to learn about the many tools that can be used for researching stories, old and new.
We have met local historians and archivists from Croydon Archives and Stanley Arts. This has helped us focus on which stories need further research and where we can start looking for information.
We have explored some of the different sources that can be accessed online from secondary sources such as local history stories online written by groups such as the Norwood Society to primary sources such as newspaper article in old publications such as the Norwood News.We have looked at what can be found in a general google search and how to look for clues as how we can find further information.
We also walked the path of the Croydon Canal to understand the space it occupied in South Norwood and how it shaped the area.
In our spare time, we undertake further research and write up our findings for the website.
