SUMMARY:Climate Café
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to live in a time of climate crisis? How does this affect our day to day life? Are there ways we can support ourselves and each other? \nClimate Cafes are welcoming and supportive spaces to gather to share our experiences of living in a time of environmental crisis through conversation and creative processes. It is for people who are concerned about the state of the planet\, who may feel grief and other emotions\, and who are looking for support within community. Everyone is welcome to this conversation\, and all experiences of how the changing climate affects how we feel are valid. \nThese are small group conversations for up to 16 participants\, facilitated each time by a different practitioner. People who attend do not have to talk; sitting and listening is welcome. \nRefreshments provided. \n\n19th August: Our “Council of All Beings” invites a more-than-human perspective on extreme climate conditions as experienced locally this summer. By looking through animal eyes we draw out a greater sense of connection to the ground on which we stand\, and find more creative ways of moving with our troubles.

SUMMARY:Women's Movement Workshop with WomanEwer
DESCRIPTION:In the lead up to our participation in the Arcadia Festival\, we invite women of all ages to join us for a movement and writing workshop\, plus the opportunity to perform in the Festival. \nThe movement part of the workshop seamlessly blends elements of contemporary dance\, release\, yoga\, conditioning and improvisation\, creating a vibrant space for exploration and growth. Most exercises focus on enhancing movement range\, coordination\, flexibility\, and strength while learning dance sequences. \nCreative tasks may include writing\, text\, discussions and movement improvisation. They will be individual as well as group led\, inspired by real life stories from female activists – regularly at the forefront of advocating and caring for the planet. The overall work celebrates womanhood\, nature preservation\, survival & the existing power structures that threaten our increasingly precarious ecosystem. \nThe movement and conversations generated in the workshops will fuel WomanEwer’s new performance that will premier at Arcadia Festival. Participants are invited to take part in a section of the performance on the 19th Sept\, and will need to be available to attend rehearsals on Fri 11th Sept 6-8:30pm and Sat 19th Sept 9.30 – 11.30am and for the performance between 2.30 – 4.45pm. SUMMARY:Arcadia Festival: Arcadia Full Bloom
DESCRIPTION:Over centuries\, we’ve always imagined a better\, greener world called Arcadia. \nThis autumn\, Stanley Arts throws open its doors to explore what Arcadia might look like right here and now in Croydon. \nArcadia Festival is day-long festival of performances\, creative interventions led by young people\, and outdoor activities that the whole family can enjoy. Together we will explore what it means to live in relationship with a living natural world. \nStart the day outside with gardening activities for all the family in The Yard\, and join in with Katy Dye’s Water Rituals\, where you’re invited to help decorate the building’s own water sources throughout the day\, turning something ordinary into something worth celebrating. \nChoose to watch Rachel Lincoln’s Meadow\, a joyful\, puppet-filled musical adventure for 3-7 year olds in Stanley Halls\, inspired by a real patch of wild grass squeezed between a train depot and an allotment – a reminder that magic and biodiversity are closer than we think. Or take part in an interactive creative intervention exploring the intrinsic value of nature\, designed by our Youth Environmental Ambassadors. \nIn the afternoon\, in the Society Room you’ll be able to vote with your phone and shape the story in Wayne Samuel’s Poempocalypse Croydon\, a speculative survival adventure set in a version of our own city. And discover WomanEwer’s Vera in Stanley Halls\, a powerful movement and sound piece celebrating womanhood and the natural world. \nPost-show conversations in the afternoon will explore how to engage communities and young people in climate action\, and how Stanley Arts and others in the theatre sector are embedding environmental responsibility into their work. Guest speakers are to be announced. \nVegan and vegetarian lunch will be on sale between 12 – 2 in the Yard. \n\n\n\n\nYou can also book our Arcadia Wild Morning and Arcadia Adventure Afternoon individually.

SUMMARY:Flotsam: A new opera for young children
DESCRIPTION:http://stanleyarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/FLOTSAM-Playthrough-June2026.mp4\nHalf Moon presents an OperaUpClose production… \nDavid Wiesner’s magical picture book adapted and brought to life in words and music by award-winning composer and writer Kerry Andrew. \nPip likes to play alone. In their bedroom\, they explore a collection of treasures from the beach—flotsam! What are these objects and creatures? Who are they? What stories might they tell?  With the help of an old camera\, Pip’s imagination takes hold\, conjuring extraordinary underwater worlds—strange\, beautiful\, and entirely their own. \nGuided by the idea of photographing the world\, curiosity and wonder leads Pip to discover a world beyond their own\, connecting with other children across time and place\, and finding the courage to reach out and make friends.

SUMMARY:A Tale of Us

Just you and me watching a new day being born. \nIvy’s just had a baby. She’s never felt so full of love – or so alone. Days (and nights) can be tough. But she’s working it out. \nA Tale of Us is a brand new play for parents and their babies.
