Thick & Tight and Azara Meghie

Thick & Tight and Azara Meghie lead a workshop about the making of Finding Grace, a solo in which Azara shares her response to fashion and music icon Grace Jones.

This work combines spoken work, breaking and dance theatre in an exploration of creativity, gender and sexuality. Participants will learn some of the material and creative methods used in the making of the work.

Azara is a multi-disciplinary artist working with live art and film, poetry, breakdancing and theatre.

Azara has worked with artists including: playwright Roy Williams; Company 3; David Hoyle; Ursula Martinez; Duckie; Ella Mesma Company and Some Voices. Azara has also performed as a dancer at Sadler’s Wells Theatre and The London Olympic Opening Ceremony 2012.

Azara’s first live solo performance I Am A Woman was created in Jamaica, a video adaptation of the piece screened at festivals across London, Berlin and New York including the BFI Flare Film Festival. Azara went on to create another solo performance called Just Another Day and Night (UK tour).

Other theatre credits include: Run It Back (Talawa Theatre Company); Finding Grace (Thick & Tight Dance); I, Joan (Shakespeare’s Globe) and The Dog Show (The Pleasance).
