“Did you know that sometimes, on the gravestones, they refer to somebody dying as falling asleep? It’s really sweet I thought. In the beginning. But when you think about it- it’s too cruel. So I decided not to think.”
Paper Swans is a one act play inspired by absurd theatre and visual symbolism. It draws on the playwright’s personal experience as a woman from a post soviet country (Lithuania) entering the democratic world, and explores the themes of oppression, freedom of speech, and what it means to pursue the dreams that one is not allowed to have.
Vyte Garriga and Flabbergast Theatre would like to invite you to the very first rehearsed reading of ‘Paper Swans’ here at Stanley Arts with a Q&A session afterwards for your feedback and thoughts.
