COMMONS Festival 2023: Contemporary Dance
Here at Stanley Arts, we enjoy hosting an array of Contemporary dance events. We are very excited to have Contemporary dance represented and featured in our COMMONS Festival 2023; a curated dance festival of performances, workshops and exhibitions that blurs the lines between audiences and performers.
Thick & Tight, a dance theatre company based in the UK and one of our key partners will be bringing a wide range of events you can take part in. Whether you’re new to the scene or an expert dancer – there’s something for everyone. Thick & Tight company creates a mix of dance, mime, theatre & drag, taking influence from a wide range of historical, political, literary & artistic subjects.
Contemporary Strand of COMMONS Festival 2023
Thursday 18th May – Thick & Tight: Can dance be entertaining and political?
A one-hour event showcasing dance theatre in fusion with other dance and performance styles and techniques, including Kathak, breaking, spoken word and improvisation.
Saturday 20th May – COMMONS Extravaganza
One mixed-bill; The ultimate COMMONS Festival 2023 experience. Each of our companies are ready to give it their all. We will encapsulate four genres in one extraordinary and unforgettable Extravaganza!
Sunday 21st May – Thick and Tight workshop with: Corali Dance Company
Thick & Tight lead a workshop with their long-time collaborators Corali Dance Company, the UK leader in dance by artists with a learning disability.
Sunday 21st May – Thick and Tight workshop with: Vidya Patel
Thick & Tight and Vidya Patel lead a workshop about the making of ‘Empire’, a solo in which Vidya plays Winston Churchill.
Sunday 21st May – Thick and Tight workshop with: Azara Meghie
Thick & Tight and Azara Meghie lead a workshop about the making of Finding Grace, a solo in which Azara shares her response to fashion and music icon Grace Jones.
