Black History Month 2025 at Stanley Arts
We are delighted to mark Black History Month with sensational theatre performances for all ages, workshops and the launch of a brand new exhibition!
Every October, the UK comes together to celebrate Black History Month—a time to honour the achievements, culture, and history of Black people in Britain and around the world.
The idea began in the United States in 1926, when historian Carter G. Woodson launched “Negro History Week” to shine a light on stories often left out of the history books. The celebration grew, and by 1976 it became the month-long event we know today.
Here in the UK, Black History Month was first celebrated in London in 1987. Since then, it has become a nationwide movement—an opportunity not only to look back at the past, but also to celebrate the present and inspire the future.
Wednesday 15th October, we are delighted to share DRUM, presented Our Day and Omnibus Theatre. A story about two rising Ghanaian creatives grapple with success and identity.
Our exhibition celebrating Black History Month, Reclamation: From Mother to Mother is a multimedia exhibition that reimagines home through the eyes of a migrant mother. Join us for its launch on Tuesday 14 October. Then from Wednesday 15 October it is free to visit Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm in our Gallery Space up until Thursday 8th November.
